One of the most important decisions any person can make is choosing an attorney to represent him or her in a matrimonial matter. In today's society, one thing there is not, is a shortage of lawyers. In New Jersey, there are over 80,000 attorneys admitted to practice law. Many of these attorneys have a mult-discipline practice. In other words, they do a little of everything. However, when choosing a divorce or divorce mediation attorney, it is important to choose an attorney whose practice is primarily matrimonial law.
The benefit of choosing an attorney who is well versed in matrimonial law is that that attorney has the experience of appearing before the Family Part judges in a given county. Since going into private practice in 1996, I have appeared before every Family Part Judge in Union and Middlesex Counties. I have handled hundreds of divorce, custody, support and domestic violence matters. My reputation as a litigator is well established.
However, litigation may not always be the best way to approach a case. Accordingly, I am now a New Jersey Supreme Court approved Family Law Mediator, pursuant to New Jersey Court Rule 1:40-12. This rule imposes a 40-hour training requirement in order to become a Rule 1:40-12 approved mediator.
